About Us
Firstly, thank you for clicking on to our website!
We have been in the joinery business for over 20 years.
Our unique play systems are hand-built in Ireland in our Co. Tyrone factory using the same techniques, skills and tools that we use to manufacture high quality staircases, windows and doors in both Softwoods and Hardwoods.

What is so different about us?
Every Castle Discovery play system is built for strength, designed for safety and fantastic fun to play on.
Our play systems are probably the strongest residential play systems on the market.
We guarantee the highest quality workmanship.
All of our Timber components are strength tested to C24 BS EN 5268.
All of our Timber is pressure treated in accordance with BS EN 351-1:1996.
All accessories eg slides, swing seats etc are CE certified GS-TUV tested and comply with European Safety Standards EN 71.
Our unique activity play systems are developed and manufactured for fast and accurate assembly on site. To guarantee quality, we manufacture each play system in our factory, then, we dismantle it for transport to the customer's site in much the same way that we manufacture and deliver high quality staircases.
Other practices that we use to ensure exceptionally high quality standards include:
- Triple sealing end grain to ensure maximum protection.
- The use of triple sealed marine grade plywood for roof panels (this is the same grade of plywood BS 1088 used in the manufacture of boats).
- The use of an expensive plastic-based paint for sealing roof panels, which is both UV stable and colourfast.
- We use much larger, chunkier, timber sections than nearly all other play systems on the market, for example: our main beams and uprights are produced from 4" x 4" (ex.100mm x 100mm) Scandinavian Whitewood.
- We use only slow-grown Scandinavian Whitewood for maximum strength. We do not use British or Irish grown Softwoods as they do not have the consistent strength qualities that we require. All of our structural timber is strength graded to C24 in accordance with BS EN 5268.
- All of our 4" x 4" (ex 100mm x 100mm) timber is Quarter Sawn and Kiln-Dried to minimise and virtually eliminate cracking.
Steel & Fixings:
All of our brackets are manufactured from 3mm plate steel and are either galvanised or plastic powder coated for added protection. We use zinc-coated 10mm and 12mm steel bolts and coach bolts to guarantee maximum structural strength. We also use high tensile steel timber locks for certain applications.
Maximum Timber Protection:
All of the timber components are pressure treated using the Tanalith 'E' protection system. It is one of the leading, new generation of, environmentally safer chemicals.
The pressure treatment process greatly increases the lifespan of the timber ensuring that our play systems can last in excess of 20 years.
The preservative used in Tanalith 'E' pressure treated timber conforms to the efficacy requirements of BS EN 599-1:1997 and timber is treated in accordance with the penetration and retention given in BS EN 351-1:1996 for a desired Hazard Class as defined in BS EN 335-1:1992. Tanalith 'E' is included in the British Wood Preserving and Damp Proofing Association (BWPDA) list of wood preservative for which compliance with BS EN 599-1:1997 has been audited by the BWPDA.
